We start our exciting adventure with a visit to the Los Tres Ojos cave, the lost world in the heart of the Dominican capital. A limestone cave full of stalactites and stalagmites hides four underground lakes. It is in these caves that the shots for such films as Jurassic Park and Tarzan were shot. We will also have fun on an underground raft ride to the last, fourth lake, which is commonly considered the most beautiful.
The next step is Faro a Colon, a former cross-shaped lighthouse, currently serving as a museum and mausoleum of Christopher Columbus. This is where the famous explorer was buried, and the various chambers are filled with local artifacts from the Americas.
From there, we move directly to the Old Town. We start our walk by admiring the House of Columbus in Piazza di Spagna, the first residential building and the Alcazar de Colon, which was built thanks to Diego, the son of Columbus.
Then we will see the National Pantheon, Casas Reales and the Cathedral of Santa Maria La Menor, the first Catholic cathedral of the Americas. We also plan to see a city park with a monumental statue of Christopher Columbus and the Larimar Museum, a beautiful, noble and blue stone that can only be found in the Dominican Republic. We will stop in front of La cafetera, where Ernest Hemingway loved to be. We will have free time on the promenade of El Conde. We will look into the cigar shop where the inhabitants of the capital do their shopping. On the way back you will see the National Palace. It is an imposing building with the appearance of a classic palace and is the seat of the President of the Dominican Republic.
